EU General Court lifts sanctions against former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka and his son — Bloomberg
The General Court of the European Union has lifted sanctions against former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka and his son Artem.
Bloomberg reports.
The sanctions were annulled, citing errors of assessment and doubts that they were based on a sufficiently “solid factual basis.”
The EU court also expressed doubt that the Ukrainian judicial administration respects the right to defence in local criminal proceedings.
Viktor Pshonka was the Prosecutor General of Ukraine during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych. In 2014, after the Revolution of Dignity, he and his son fled to Russia and are wanted in Ukraine.
Pshonka and his son were first targeted by EU sanctions in 2014 as individuals subject to criminal prosecution in Ukraine for embezzlement of Ukrainian public funds and their illegal transfer outside Ukraine.
Former President Viktor Yanukovych and his son have remained on the EU sanctions list since 2014.
