Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders refuses to accept the post of prime minister

Amsterdam, the Netherlands (Svidomi) — Geert Wilders' Freedom Party (PVV) won the most seats in the November 2023 parliamentary elections. Since then, they have been trying to form a coalition of right-wing parties
Coalition talks reached an impasse after leaders of other parties refused to support the far-right election winner as prime minister, the Dutch public broadcaster NOS says.
"I can only become Prime Minister if ALL parties in the coalition support it. That was not the case," Wilders said on X on Wednesday.
Now, the Freedom Party is negotiating to form a government without Geert Wilders, together with other coalition parties such as the Farmers' and Citizens' Union (VVD) and the New Social Contract (NSC).
Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced his resignation in July 2023. The entire Cabinet of Ministers resigned with him. Rutte will lead the country until a new government takes office.
Svidomi covered the issue on Geert Wilders and his political views. He supports a ban on immigration for citizens of Muslim countries, has criticised the sending of humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine, and regularly travelled to Russia until 2022.
