Duda: Farmers fear a huge influx of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU markets
Warsaw, Poland (Svidomi) — Polish President Andrzej Duda has commented on the border blockade with Ukraine. He said that farmers fear a huge influx of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU markets. According to him, "the problem with Ukrainian food has existed from the very beginning", and Russian aggression is to blame.
"Farmers are afraid of a huge influx of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU markets. They believe that this should be controlled because they fear for their livelihood. They demand that the EU at the Brussels level settle this issue," Duda said.
In his opinion, Russian aggression against Ukraine is to blame, and "not someone else".
"If there had been no Russian aggression against Ukraine, this problem would not have arisen at all," Duda said.
Duda said that blocking the border was not a decision of the Polish government but of farmers. When asked about the Ukrainian grain scattered on the road, he said:
"I am sorry that such situations have arisen, but, on the other hand, I also ask you to remember that Poland is a democratic country where the right to protest simply exists and is guaranteed by the Constitution."
According to the Polish president, the situation can be resolved through negotiations.
"Some time ago, we had protests by drivers, trade unions, and the truck drivers' association. This protest was stopped precisely as a result of negotiations with the authorities, as a result of agreements reached, so to speak, in the trilateral formula Poland-Ukraine-drivers. I hope that this issue can be resolved in the same way," he added.
