Donald Trump wins South Carolina primary
South Carolina, USA (Svidomi) — Former US President Donald Trump has won the Republican Party primary in Nikki Haley's home state of South Carolina.
Trump received 59.8% of the vote. He thus gains the support of 44 delegates at the upcoming Republican Party convention, which will determine the Republican presidential candidate.
South Carolina was a "home" state for his rival, Nikki Haley. From 2011 to 2017, she was the governor of South Carolina. But in the primaries, she received only 39.5% of the vote.
Haley says she will not withdraw from the race and will take part in the Michigan primary on February 27.
According to the Associated Press, the South Carolina primary has historically been a signal for Republicans. In all but one of the primaries since 1980, the winner of the South Carolina primary has become the party's nominee.
