CNN: Elon Musk secretly ordered his engineers to turn off the Starlink network near the Crimean coast in 2022 to prevent a Ukrainian attack on the Russian naval fleet
Elon Musk secretly ordered his engineers to shut down the Starlink network off the coast of Crimea in 2022 to prevent a Ukrainian attack on the Russian navy. This is stated in a new biography of Musk written by journalist Walter Isaacson.
CNN got acquainted with it.
The journalist writes that Musk was afraid that Russia would use nuclear weapons in response.
For the same reason, according to the authors, the billionaire had conversations with Russian officials.
The Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, asked Musk to restore the connection, but he refused.
Therefore, on June 1, 2023, the Pentagon signed an agreement with SpaceX to purchase Starlink for Ukraine, which Musk would not be able to disconnect at will.
CNN reached out to Musk and SpaceX for comment, but they did not respond.
