China bans seafood imports from Japan over its decision to discharge treated water from the Fukushima NPP
On August 24, China banned seafood imports from Japan due to its decision to discharge treated water from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant.
This is reported by CNN.
According to China's Customs Department, the decision to ban imports is aimed at preventing "the risk of radioactive contamination of food safety caused by the discharge of contaminated water from Japan's Fukushima Daiichi NPP".
The start of the water discharge from the nuclear power plant caused a sharp reaction from many consumers and some countries.
At the same time, Japan claims that the discharge of treated water is safe and "urgently needed" to free up space at the damaged power plant.
In July, the IAEA said the plan complied with international standards.
It will be recalled, Japan announced that it would start discharging treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on August 24.
