About 50% of mussels died on Odesa beach — ecologist Vladyslav Balinskyi
Vladyslav Balinskyi showed the Black Sea seabed near Sobachyi Beach in Odesa. After the Russians blew up the Kakhovka HPP, the seabed is littered with debris: reeds, branches, and other objects.
Ecologist Vladyslav Balinskyi posted the video with this on his social media.
"Mussel colonies in this area of the coast, located in a pool bounded by a breakwater and piers on both sides, have been severely affected. About 50% of all mussels died in the basin of Sobachyi Beach. I think the situation with mussels is similar on all Odesa beaches with breakwaters," Balinskyi said.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has estimated the environmental damage caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP at over $1.5 billion.
