A Ukrainian was detained in Belarus for allegedly "threatening the country"
Euroradio reported this citing the man's mother.
Artem Makovei has been living in Belarus since 2009 and has a residence permit. He worked as a DJ and performed across Belarus.
According to his mother, in January 2023, her son was summoned to the migration service and "offered to take a lie detector test there."
Later, at the end of January, strangers in civilian clothes knocked on his door. Artem was afraid to open the door because he did not know who they were.
On 27 January, the man stopped responding to his mother's messages.
The woman says that his friends were detained along with her son. They were eventually released from custody.
The police refuse to tell the woman where her son is, saying only that he is a "danger to the country."
