US President Joe Biden wins the Democratic Party primary in South Carolina
Columbia, South Carolina, the US (Svidomi) — According to the results of the Democratic Party primaries in South Carolina in the United States, incumbent President Joe Biden won, Reuters reports.
Biden received more than 116 thousand votes (96.4%). He was ahead of his two main rivals among the Democrats — Congressman Dean Phillips and writer Marianne Williamson.
The voter turnout failed to exceed the expectations of the Democratic Party, which expected 100,000 to 200,000 votes after Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' tour of the southern states.
"In 2020, it was the voters of South Carolina who proved the pundits wrong, breathed new life into our campaign, and set us on the path to winning the presidency. It will be recalled that on January 24, the first Republican primaries were held in New Hampshire, which resulted in Donald Trump's victory. Although Biden did not campaign there, he received 64% of the primary vote.
New Hampshire breached the new party rules by holding primaries before South Carolina
