The Russian Orthodox Church may be preparing a new transfer of Ukrainian POWs to Hungary — Defence Intelligence
The Russian Orthodox Church may be preparing to transfer Ukrainian prisoners of war to Hungary again.
A representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Andrii Yusov, said this in a comment to Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty Ukrainian bureau.
Among the POWs in Russia and the temporarily occupied territories, they are looking for Ukrainians of Hungarian origin who speak Hungarian, in particular. There is currently no list of names of prisoners who may be transferred.
Yusov stressed that the Russian Orthodox Church is only a cover for the work of Russian special services.
"Unfortunately, this is not the first such situation. We are talking about the so-called mediation of the Russian Orthodox Church. In this case, it is only a cover and the work of the special services. Such an approach is a blatant violation of international law, the Geneva Convention, and the rights of Ukrainian citizens and servicemen," Yusov said.
Earlier, Russia handed over 11 prisoners of war to Hungary without Ukraine's knowledge. As of June 23, only five POWs had been returned from Hungary.
