Shell Oil and Gas Company continues to buy Russian gas

In 2022 and 2023, Shell exported liquefied natural gas from Russia. The company was among the top 5 traders of Russian LNG.
BBC reported this citing the calculations of the NGO Global Witness.
Shell is a multinational company of Dutch-British origin, which is the world's second-largest oil and gas trader.
Shell accounted for 12% of the Russian liquefied natural gas trade in 2023. For example, in May, a Shell tanker exported 160,000 cubic metres of gas from Russia.
Shell claims it is not violating the sanctions, as it is not about new purchases but the fulfilment of previously concluded contracts.
It will be recalled that in March 2022, Shell claimed it stopped buying Russian oil on the spot market, i.e. at the price available for the product subject to immediate delivery. The company promised to transfer to the Ukraine aid fund the money it earned from contracts concluded after the start of the full-scale invasion.
