Russians are deliberately lowering the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir, which could lead to an accident at the ZNPP

They are doing this to complicate the forcing of the Dnipro downstream. However, if the water level in the reservoir reaches below the critical limit, there will be difficulties with reactor cooling.

Ukrenerho experts announced this at the meeting of the State Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations.

Russians are dumping water from the lower reaches of the Kakhovka Reservoir. Cities that take water from this reservoir have already experienced problems with the water supply. If the trend continues, the situation could become even worse in the summer due to the seasonal decrease in water levels.

Russia is doing this because it fears that the Ukrainian army will be able to force the Dnipro River. On February 6, the General Staff reported the Russian shelling of Hola Prystan. This could mean the Ukrainian military is fighting on the left bank of the Dnipro Delta.

The minimum permissible level in the Kakhovka Reservoir is 13.2 meters. If the Russians lower the water, the Zaporizhzhia NPP will not be able to take water for cooling the reactors. This could lead to an accident.
