Lawyers collect evidence of Russia's use of starvation as a weapon during the war against Ukraine

Human rights activists and the Ukrainian prosecutor's office are collecting evidence of Russia's use of starvation as a weapon in the war against Ukraine.

The Guardian reported this.

Lawyers and prosecutors are documenting cases of destruction of food stocks, attacks on water supply infrastructure, blockade of humanitarian corridors, etc.

The list of incidents also includes Russian attacks on port infrastructure and obstruction of Ukrainian grain exports.

Among the documented incidents is the death of 20 civilians in Chernihiv on March 16, 2022. Russians used fragmentation bombs to attack a queue of Ukrainians buying bread and groceries outside a

supermarket.

The Russian seizure of a pumping station left Mykolaiv without water. Residents of the city could only rely on the delivery of drinking water. This incident will also be included in the list.

Attacks by the Russian military on port infrastructure on the Danube and in the Black Sea will also be included in the dossier. The Ukrainian government estimates that 270,000 tonnes of foodstuff was destroyed in late July and early August 2023.

The evidence will be handed over to the International Criminal Court to bring charges against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It will be recalled that in September, the International Criminal Court opened a field office in Kyiv. The opening was attended by ICC prosecutor Karim Khan.
