"Within two years of Russia's war against Ukraine, at least 528 children have been killed and 1230 injured" — Olena Zelenska
Kyiv, Ukraine (Svidomi) — At least 528 children have been killed and 1,230 others wounded in the two years of Russia's war against Ukraine, First Lady Olena Zelenska says.
She adds that over 330 children needed prosthetics due to their injuries.
"I cannot but recall the losses of the last two weeks: the Putiatin brothers from Kharkiv — seven-year-old Oleksiy, four-year-old Mykhailo, ten-month-old Pavlyk — who died with their parents in a fire caused by Russian shelling. Nine-year-old Yaroslav Kameniev from Selydove. He was staying with his mother at the hospital when a Russian missile hit it,"
Zelenska wrote.
She adds that two million children have left Ukraine with their parents to be rescued, and more than 19,000 have been abducted by Russia and transported from the occupied territories.
More than a million Ukrainian children study fully online. Approximately two thousand schools still do not have bomb shelters.
"We will not return these stolen two years of childhood, but we can make sure that February 24, 2022, remains only an episode. Dramatic, but only a glimpse of a great, happy, long life," First Lady concludes.
Juvenile prosecutors of Ukraine emphasise that the figures are not final, as work is underway to establish information in the areas of active hostilities, in the temporarily occupied and already liberated territories.
"Children suffered the most in the following regions: Donetsk — 520, Kharkiv — 332, Kherson — 148, Kyiv — 130, Dnipro — 111, Mykolaiv — 101, Zaporizhzhia — 100, Chernihiv — 72, Luhansk — 67," the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine informs.
