Ukraine scores 36 out of 100 in 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index

Kyiv, Ukraine (Svidomi) — Ukraine received 36 points out of 100 in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 and ranked 104th out of 180 countries

The 3-point increase was one of the best results in the world last year

Since the beginning of the Revolution of Dignity, after which pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych fled Ukraine, Ukraine has added 11 points in just 10 years.

"This is the largest increase among the countries that currently have the status of EU candidates," Transparency International Ukraine says.

Denmark with 90 points, Finland with 87 points, and New Zealand with 84 points topped the list of countries. The last places in the ranking are occupied by Syria and Venezuela with 13 points, and Somalia with 11 points.

Every year, Transparency International releases its Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which ranks 180 countries and territories on a scale from 0 (very corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

By December 2023, when the European Council began negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership, European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen highlighted two anti-corruption laws passed to increase the size of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and to require asset declarations.

At the same time, the Ukrainian parliament supported the draft law on the independence of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office but did not fully repeal the so-called Lozovyi amendments, which limit the duration of investigations.
