Ukraine and Russia launch joint monitoring visits to civilian detention facilities

Representatives of the Ombudsman's Office from Ukraine and representatives of the State Duma from Russia will carry out these visits - the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

On April 23, the Russians visited 17 Ukrainians who have been held in captivity for months in the Luhansk region. On May 3, the Ukrainian side visited 17 Russians held on the territory of Ukraine. 

Afterwards, the parties exchanged lists of detainees and videos proving the fact of their imprisonment. Relatives of the civilian prisoners were informed of the visit. During the visit, they were given basic necessities.

In a commentary to journalists of Hromadske, Lubinets said that the mechanism was necessary to verify and support Ukrainian civilians illegally detained by Russia.
