Twitter publishes information on which categories of content receive less visibility

Among these rules are, for example, CoordinatedHarmfulActivity, MedicalMisinfo, and UkraineCrisisTopic. However, only a part of the data has been published, so it is impossible to draw a conclusion about the use of these objects.

Part of the social network's code was published on the GitHub platform.

The full list of downranking rules (reducing the visibility of tweets) includes the following objects:

  • DoNotAmplify;
  • CoordinatedHarmfulActivityHighRecall;
  • UntrustedUrl;
  • MisleadingHighRecall;
  • NsfwHighPrecision;
  • NsfwHighRecall;
  • CivicIntegrityMisinfo;
  • MedicalMisinfo;
  • GenericMisinfo;
  • DmcaWithheld;
  • HatefulHighRecall;
  • ViolenceHighRecall;
  • HighToxicityModelScore;
  • UkraineCrisisTopic;
  • DoNotPublicPublish.

Social media users suggested that the presence of the UkraineCrisisTopic object among the rules indicates a deliberate reduction in the visibility of any content about Ukraine.

At the same time, the social network has not published all the information about the algorithms, so it is currently impossible to determine what content falls under the category of UkraineCrisisTopic and how the object is applied.

Svidomi contacted Twitter for a comment. We asked the social network how UkraineCrisisTopic is applied and why this object was created.
