The National Aviation Museum of Ukraine discovers the remains of 8 British aircraft from World War II

Museum workers have managed to excavate fighter jets near Kyiv that were supplied to the Soviet army as Lend-Lease aid during World War II. Later, the USSR deliberately destroyed them to avoid paying for them.

The BBC reported this.

Recently, a World War II-era bomb was discovered near Kyiv. Because of this, sappers checked the entire ravine where the bomb was with metal detectors and came across the remains of the aircraft. The National Aviation Museum of Ukraine began excavations.

They managed to find Hawker Hurricane fighters that had been supplied to the USSR under the Lend-Lease programme.

The Soviet Union was obliged to pay for the Western equipment that was not destroyed during the fighting. To reduce the number of aircraft, they were deliberately destroyed. Before that, all valuable equipment was removed from the aircraft, and their remains were hidden.

This is a unique find — Hawker Hurricanes are hardly ever found in Ukraine.
