The EU Council added sanctions evasion to the list of crimes

However, currently the EU member states have different definitions of what constitutes a violation of restrictive measures and what punishment should be applied in case of such violation.

The Council suggests that this could lead to the possibility of circumventing certain sanctions.

However, the European Commission will later present a proposal for a directive that will contain minimum rules for defining criminal offenses and punishments for violating EU restrictive measures.
