Serhii Zhadan received the 2022 Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Booksellers Peace Prize)

The Ukrainian Book Institute reported this.

Zhadan received the award for "outstanding artistic creativity and the humane attitude with which, risking his life, he returns to people in war and helps them."

"It is sometimes difficult for the world that listens to us to understand us... Ukrainians do not need to make excuses for their emotions but explain them. We can explain, we can describe what happened to us and what is happening next. We must understand that it will not be an easy conversation. But it must be started today," said Serhii Zhadan during the award ceremony.
