Sandu: Moldova expects to join the EU by 2030 together with Russian-occupied region

Maia Sandu believes Moldova can join the EU by 2030 together with the so-called "Transnistria" despite the presence of Russian troops in the region - Bloomberg.

"The sooner we improve our living standards, the sooner we have a chance for reunification. That is our goal," she said.

President Sandu says that to resolve the situation with Transnistria in Moldova, economic reforms and the fight against corruption are needed, with a view to joining the EU and convincing the region's residents of the benefits of such a course. 

Sandu also emphasises her readiness to run for re-election next year in order to maintain pro-European sentiment.
