Russians strike Kharkiv about 15 times, killing at least seven people

On May 22, Russian troops shelled the territory of eight regions of Ukraine. According to the Situation Centre of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Russian army attacked 103 settlements and 71 infrastructure facilities.

At around 10:30, Russian troops struck Kharkiv. The head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that a printing company was hit, setting fire to a paper shop. As of 13:30 p.m., seven people were killed and 16 wounded.

Over the previous day, 12 people were injured in the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine. The Russians shelled Kharkiv, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and Chuhuiv. A kindergarten in Chuhuiv caught fire as a result of the shelling.

In the Donetsk region, which has been partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russians fired 21 times at localities. Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged in the communities of Mariinka, Kurakhove, Chasiv Yar, Selydove, Lyman, Kostiantynivka, and Siversk. One person was killed in Toretsk.

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, Russian troops attacked Novoliubivka, Nevske, Makiivka, Stelmakhivka, Kuzemivka and Serebriansky forest. On May 22, the Russians struck twice during the distribution of bread to the population — no one was injured.

In the Kherson region, which has been partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled 17 settlements, including the city of Kherson. Two people were injured in the shelling. Five private houses, a mobile phone tower, a business and a car were damaged.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region in the southcentral Ukraine, Russian troops shelled Nikopol, the communities of Pokrovsk, Myrove, and Chervonohryhorivka. Residential buildings, vehicles, a shop, and an administrative building were damaged. The Russians also attacked the Novomoskovsk and Dnipro districts. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, which has been partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russian army shelled Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Verbove and Novoandriivka. There were 15 reports of residential damage. On May 23, Russian artillery struck Mala Tokmachka, killing a 74-year-old man in his yard.

In the Sumy region in the north of Ukraine, bordering Russia, the Russians fired 34 times at border areas and settlements. One hundred fifty-five explosions were recorded. The Mykolaiv, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Putivl, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novgorod communities were shelled.

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Semenivka, Snovsk and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities were shelled. Eighteen explosions were recorded there.
