Russian shelling of Kherson leaves three dead and 18 injured, power outages reported in Kherson

On the night of August 22, Russia attacked Ukraine with 10 Shahed UAVs, X-31-P anti-radar missiles and two Iskander-M ballistic missiles. The Air Force managed to shoot down 2 Shahed UAVs. The other 2 UAVs fell as a result of radio-electronic warfare. Due to active countermeasures, most enemy missiles failed to reach their targets. Preliminarily, there were no casualties or serious consequences.

In the Kherson region in the south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian armed forces fired at Kherson, Tomyna Balka, Komyshany, Antonivka, Novoberyslav, Mykilske, Novodmitrivka, Tokarivka, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, Kizomys, Veletenske, Novovorontsovka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Bilozerka, Pryozerne, Poniativka, Shliakhove, Chervonyi Maiak, Vysoke, Novooleksandrivka, Vesele, Olhivka, and Burhunka. As a result of the shelling, three people were killed, and 18 were wounded. The Russian military hit a critical infrastructure facility, leaving Kherson partially without electricity. The Russians also hit a shopping centre, educational and medical facilities, churches, administrative buildings and a catering establishment, high-rise buildings, private houses, a water supply system, outbuildings, a garage, and vehicles.

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russian troops attacked the towns of Hirnyk, Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Novohrodivka, Selydove, Siversk, Ukrainsk, Chasiv Yar and the villages of Velyka Novosilka, Petrivka, Veselyi Hai, Zoria with artillery and UAVs. As a result of the attacks, four people died in Kostyantynivka, Ukrainsk, Siversk, and Petrivka. Three people were wounded. As a result of the shelling, the Russians damaged or destroyed apartment buildings, private houses, administrative buildings, businesses, educational institutions, trade pavilions, cars, and communications.

Over the past 24 hours, in the Kharkiv region bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russian army attacked Kupiansk, Hetmanivka, Odradne, Kamianka, Petrivka, Kozacha Lopan, Pisky Radkivski, Nechvolodivka, Shyikivka, and Iziumske with four X-35 cruise missiles, a Shahed UAV, FPV drones, MLRS, and artillery. Three people were injured in the shelling. Residential buildings, a social infrastructure facility, the Shevchenkove and Kozacha Lopan village councils, the Shevchenkove Agricultural Lyceum, garages, outbuildings, a farm enterprise and vehicles were damaged or destroyed.  

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians attacked the communities of Mykolaivka, Yunakivka, Khotin, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Putyvl, Nova Sloboda, Hlukhiv, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda and Svesa with guided aircraft missiles, artillery, MLRS, mortars, and drones. There are no reports of casualties or damage.

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled the communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Horodnia with artillery, mortars and UAVs. Border guards recorded 48 explosions, with no casualties or damage to infrastructure.

In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, the Russian army fired Iskander-M ballistic missiles and artillery at the communities of Kutsurub and Bereznehuvate. A ballistic missile hit caused a fire on a farm and two residential buildings. There were no casualties. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, the Russians attacked Nikopol and the communities of Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske, and Myrove. The attacks damaged infrastructure, a petrol station, private houses, outbuildings, vehicles and power lines. There were no casualties or injuries. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russian army attacked Nevske and Makiivka with artillery and MLRS. As a result, a house and an outbuilding were completely destroyed, with no casualties. 

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians attacked with aircraft, UAVs, MLRS, and artillery Piatykhatky, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Malynivka, Preobrazhenky, Zelenyi Hai, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Poltavka, and Uspenivka. In total, the Russians struck 12 settlements, damaging infrastructure and residential buildings, with no civilian casualties.
