Russian shelling of Kharkiv region leaves one dead and 11 injured on August 23

On the night of August 22, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian cities with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and 16 Shahed strike UAVs. As a result of the aircraft combat, aviation, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups in the Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Sumy regions shot down 14 UAVs, and two more were lost in the area. There is no information on damage or casualties.

In the Kherson region, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian army shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Beryslav, Novoberyslav, Tomaryne, Chervonyi Maiak, Novovorontsovka, Mylove, Veletenske, Kizomys, Komyshany, and Sadove. As a result of Russian aggression, two civilians were killed, and five others were injured. The Russian military hit an educational institution and a shop, high-rise buildings and private houses, a gas pipeline, and agricultural machinery.

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, Russia attacked the towns of Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Lyman, Myrnohrad, Novohrodivka, Pokrovsk, Toretsk, the village of Myrne, Dibrova, Maksymivka, Pleshchiivka, Uspenivka, and Yasna Poliana. One civilian died as a result of the attack in Myrne. Four more people were injured in Pleshchiivka as a result of the dropping of guided aerial bombs, and four more people were wounded in Kostiantynivka, Novohradivka, and Toretske. As a result of the shelling, the Russians damaged or destroyed apartment buildings, private houses, a shopping centre, an educational institution, trade pavilions, and vehicles.

Over the last day, in the Kharkiv region bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russian troops attacked Shyikivka, Bohuslavka, Kolisnykivka, Novoplatonivka, Bohodukhiv, Semeniv Yar, Novoozynove, Hlushkivka, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, and Odradne with artillery, MLRS and mortars. The shelling of Bohodukhiv resulted in the death of one person and the injury of 8 others, including one child. One person was injured as a result of Russian aggression in Bohuslavka, Kolisnykivka, and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Private and multi-apartment buildings, a private enterprise, commercial buildings, social infrastructure, and transport were destroyed. 

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians attacked the communities of Yunakivka, Khotin, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Nova Sloboda, Berezivka, Hlukhiv, Esman, Svesa, and Yampil with guided aerial bombs, FPV drones and UAVs. A total of 17 explosions were reported in the region, with no casualties. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russian troops fired artillery, mortars and UAVs at the Semenivka and Horodnia communities. Border guards recorded 50 explosions, with no casualties or damage to infrastructure. 

In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, Russia attacked the Kutsurub community with artillery and an FPV drone. There were no casualties. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Russians attacked Nikopol and the communities of Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, and Myrove with artillery and kamikaze drones. As a result of the attacks, one civilian was injured; power lines and private and apartment buildings were damaged. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russian army again attacked Nevske and Makiivka with artillery, UAVs and MLRS. There is no information on casualties or damage.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians attacked Piatykhatky, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Temyrivka, Uspenivka, and Levadne with aircraft, UAVs, MLRS, and artillery. In total, the Russians launched 317 attacks on nine settlements. The attacks resulted in one civilian being injured, as well as damage to infrastructure and residential buildings.
