Russian army shells Donetsk region, killing two civilians and wounding eight others during the day of August 17

Russian troops attacked Ukraine on the night of August 17 using three ballistic, three cruise and two guided missiles, as well as eight Shahed combat drones. The Air Defence Forces reported shooting down all combat drones and cruise missiles, as well as two ballistic missiles in the Kyiv, Poltava and Sumy regions. The rest of the missiles missed their targets, causing no casualties.
In the Donetsk region, located on the frontline in the east of ukraine and partially occupied since 2014, Russian troops shelled 14 localities, including the cities of Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Kurakhove, Lyman, Myrnohrad, Novohrodivka, Toretsk, Chasiv Yar, Shcherbynivka, and the villages of Hannivka, Markove, Mykhailivka, Sukhyi Yar, and Trudove. The shelling killed two civilians in Myrnohrad and Toretsk and injured eight others. Residential buildings, shops, a supermarket, a pharmacy, an educational institution, a cinema, an administrative building, an industrial facility, a lock-up, and critical infrastructure were destroyed and damaged. Russian forces used artillery, aerial bombs and Smerch multiple rocket launchers.
In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russian army attacked Kupiansk, Kozacha Lopan, Balakliia, Kivsharika, Sobolivka and Borova with drones, MLRS and artillery. Private houses, outbuildings and vehicles suffered damage.
In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian army fired on Kherson, Chornobaivka, Kachkarivka, Sadove, Mykhailivka, Antonivka, Dariivka, Beryslav, Veletenske, Zolota Balka, Dudchany, Novokairy, Zymivnyk, Stepanivka, Poniativka, Komyshany, Novoraіsk, Zmiivka, and Odradokamianka. Two civilians were wounded in the shelling. The Russian military hit administrative buildings, an educational institution, a shop, private houses, outbuildings and vehicles.
In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, Khotin, Yunakivka, Krasnopillia, Sadivka, Stepanivka, Mykolaivka and Seredyna-Buda communities came under Russian shelling with MRLS, rockets, artillery, mines and UAVs. There is no information on casualties.
In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians attacked the Semenivka and Novhorod-Siverskуі communities with UAVs and artillery. There were no casualties.
In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, the Russians attacked Ochakiv and the Kutsurub community with drones and artillery. There were no casualties. A private house was damaged as a result of the attack.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, the Russian armed forces attacked the Nikopol, Marhanets, Pokrovsk and Myrovе communities. The aggressor used artillery and kamikaze drones against the settlements. One man sustained moderate injuries. A recreation centre, private houses, power lines, a gas pipeline and outbuildings were destroyed.
In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russian army attacked Nevske, Stelmakhivka, Hrekivka, Novoiehorivka and Makiivka with artillery, UAVs and multiple rocket launchers. As a result, Russians destroyed one house in Nevske. There are no households left in this settlement that have not suffered varying degrees of damage.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians attacked the following settlements with artillery, aircraft, MLRS and UAVs: Kamianske, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne, Malyshivka, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Robotyne, Preobrazhenka, Mala Tokmachka and Malynivka. The strikes destroyed private houses and infrastructure, with no casualties.
