Queen Margrethe II of Denmark refused patronage of the Hans Christian Andersen Award because of the Russian jury president

Russian illustrator Anastasia Arkhipova received this position in September 2022 at the world congress of the International Board on Books for Young People.

Sweden, Finland, Norway, Belgium, Estonia, and Lithuania unsuccessfully tried to appeal this decision. In response, the Board issued a statement condemning Russia's full-scale invasion.
