Polish Minister of Agriculture apologises for the incident with grain scattering from Ukrainian trucks at the border

Warsaw, Poland (Svidomi) — Polish Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski has apologised for the incident involving grain spilling from Ukrainian trucks at the border on February 11. Earlier, Polish prosecutors launched an investigation.

According to Czesław Siekerski, it was "not the right form of protest, but it is often used by farmers in various countries".

"Farmers did not hold back their emotions, but it is worth remembering that they are in a very difficult economic situation. They have no money to buy fertilisers and plant protection products at the start of spring fieldwork. It is hard not to understand their desperation,"

he said.

Siekierski added that the ministries of agriculture of Poland and Ukraine are conducting technical negotiations on trade terms that would limit the flow of goods that disrupt the stability of agri-food markets.

The Polish minister also added that the solution to the problems lies not only in Polish-Ukrainian relations, as "the European Commission is responsible for the organisation and rules of trade in the common European market".

On February 13, it became known that the Polish prosecutor's office had opened a case over the scattered grain at the border. The perpetrators face up to five years in prison.

Svidomi wrote in detail about the incident in the explainer of the situation.
