Polish prosecutor's office opens case over spilt grain incident at border

Chełm, Poland (Svidomi) — In Poland, the District Prosecutor's Office in Chełm has opened an investigation into an incident involving spilled Ukrainian grain before the border crossing to Dorohusk.

The proceedings were opened for destruction of property and violation of customs security. The perpetrators face up to five years in prison.

The incident occurred on February 11 on a Polish state road leading to the Dorohusk-Yahodyn border crossing near the place where the farmers were protesting.

The police found that the protesters had broken customs seals on three Ukrainian trucks, causing the grain to spill out. Estimates suggest that about a tonne of grain spilt out of each truck.

Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses, recording the events, and examining the scene and the trucks.

Svidomi covered the incident in more detail in its explainer.
