Niger junta allows Burkina Faso and Mali junta troops to stay in Niger "in the event of aggression"

The three countries will now be able to act together in case of an intervention by the ECOWAS in Niger to restore constitutional order.

Nigerien Press Agency published the junta's decision.

On August 24, delegations of pro-Russian military regimes from Burkina Faso and Mali arrived in the Nigerien capital Niamey for talks. After the meeting, Nigerien junta leader Abdourahamane Tchiani announced that he had allowed the armies of Burkina Faso and Mali to be deployed in Niger.

On July 26, a group of soldiers led by the commander of Tchiani's presidential guard removed the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum from power.

After that, the Economic Community of West African States decided that it would take military action in Niger if the junta did not return power to constitutional institutions. However, this has not happened so far.

Now, if the Community takes this step, it will also have to confront Malian and Burkinabé troops trained by Wagner PMC militants.

It will be recalled that Mali has been under Russian influence since 2021 and Burkina Faso since 2022.
