New Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, prepares for a visit to Ukraine
Newly elected Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, plans to pay a working visit to Ukraine.
He told the Polish media outlet TVN24.
Tusk did not disclose the date of the visit but said he was going to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, he is "a little ashamed" to talk about the blockade on the border in the situation in which the Ukrainian president and the entire Ukraine are now. He also believes it would be "wrong to go to Kyiv and dedicate the entire visit to Polish transport issues".
"We will prepare this visit so that during my meeting with the president, it is clear what we want to achieve," the Prime Minister said.
Tusk added that he would ask carriers not to block the checkpoints because of the war Russia is waging against Ukraine. The Prime Minister also said that the situation with the blockade is "dramatic", but he will do "everything possible to make life easier for Polish transport companies".
It will be recalled that since November 6, a protest of Polish carriers has been going on, blocking trucks at checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border. The protesters are demanding, in particular, the return of permits for Ukrainian carriers, i.e. the cancellation of the "transport visa-free regime" and the tightening of the European Conference of Transport Ministers' transport rules for foreign carriers.
