Lithuania to close two checkpoints on the border with Belarus

On August 18, Lithuania will close the Šumskas/Losha and Tverečius/Vidzy checkpoints on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

This was reported by the Lithuanian public broadcaster.

After the termination of work at these checkpoints, border guards will be transferred to other checkpoints.

Only light vehicles pass through the Šumskas checkpoint, and light vehicles and empty trucks pass through Tverečius.

There is one checkpoint on the Polish border with Belarus, two on the Latvian border, and six on the Lithuanian border.

Therefore, the Lithuanian government decided to reduce the operation of two of them for security reasons due to the presence of Wagner mercenaries in Belarus.
