Latvia to strengthen security on the border with Belarus from August 11

Latvia, following Lithuania and Poland, will strengthen security on the border with Belarus.

This is stated on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The security measures will last for six months until February 10, 2024.

The measures will be in place in the city of Daugavpils and three municipalities: Ludza, Krāslava, and Augšdaugava.

"The order was issued to ensure the inviolability of the state border and prevent a national security threat, taking into account the disproportionately high number of cases of illegal and attempted crossings of the Latvian-Belarusian border and their increasing trend," the statement said.
