Walter Biot wanted to sell a flash drive with classified data for €5,000.
Italian public broadcasting reported this.
Biot was an officer in the Italian Naval Forces. He took pictures of the classified documents and saved them on a memory card.
In March 2021, he met with the Russian naval attaché Dmitry Ostroukhov to receive €5,000 for the transfer of data. The police detained him.
The prosecutor's office demanded life imprisonment, but the court sentenced Biot to 30 years in prison.
