Georgia expresses deep concern over Ukraine's decision to send away the Ambassador of Georgia.
The Foreign Ministry of Georgia (Sakartvelo) has expressed deep concern over Ukraine's decision to send the Georgian Ambassador to Tbilisi for consultations.
This is a statement published on the ministry's website.
"This action is an extreme form of escalation of diplomatic relations, and it is very unfortunate that official Kyiv is taking such a step against a friendly state and people," the Foreign Ministry states.
According to the Georgian side, the reason given by the Ukrainian authorities (the health of former President Saakashvili - ed.) makes the decision to send the ambassador "particularly incomprehensible".
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia said that the decision of the Strasbourg court had put an end to speculation about the health of the convicted Mikheil Saakashvili, "which once again confirmed the highest standards of protection of Saakashvili's rights by the state".
"We hope that official Kyiv will reconsider its decision and make efforts to further develop the historically friendly relations between the two countries," the Foreign Ministry adds.
