The Border Guard Service of Southeastern Finland reported that they plan to start building a road for border patrols, installing a fence, and setting up a technical control system in March.
In particular, the fence will run through private land, so the authorities will negotiate with landowners and provide one-time compensation for permanent damage and inconvenience caused by the construction of the fence.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. About 200 kilometres of fences will be erected along Finland's eastern border in the next few years.
