He and co-founder of the service laundered over $500 million on behalf of a state-sponsored North Korean cybercrime group.
The detention was reported by the US Department of Justice.
US law enforcement did not detain the second co-founder, Russian citizen Roman Semenov. However, the Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on him.
Storm and Semenov co-founded Sanctioned Virtual Currency Mixer Tornado Cash. It is a crypto-mixer, i.e. a service that makes it difficult to track cryptocurrency transactions. This service was used to circumvent sanctions.
