EU adopts twelfth package of sanctions for Russia over war against Ukraine
The EU Council has adopted the twelfth package of restrictive measures for Russia over its war against Ukraine. The sanctions, according to the EU, will deal "a further blow to Putin's ability to wage war".
This is stated on the Council of the European Union website.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to Ukraine and will continue to support its fight for freedom and sovereignty,
said Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The restrictive measures include:
- a ban on direct or indirect imports of diamonds from Russia;
- a ban on the re-export to Russia of sensitive goods and technology that can be used in Russian military systems;
- restrictions on imports of goods that generate significant revenues: pig iron, copper wires, etc;
- a ban on the transit of dual-use and military goods;
- sanctions for 29 organisations belonging to third countries and Russia and involved in circumventing previous sanctions restrictions;
- restrictions on oil prices.
The Council is introducing tighter compliance rules to support the implementation of the oil price cap and clamp down on circumvention,
the statement said.
It will be recalled that Austria blocked the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia, demanding that Ukraine remove Raiffeisen from the list of war sponsors. Ukraine later fulfilled these demands.
