The death toll from wildfires on the island of Maui in Hawaii has risen to at least 87 people.

The death toll makes this fire the deadliest in the US in more than a century.
As rescue operations continue, the death toll may rise. The exact number of missing persons is unknown.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, it will cost $5.5 billion to rebuild the city of Lāhainā. More than 2,200 buildings were damaged or destroyed, and over 850 hectares of land burned.
