A Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group attempts to break through the border in the Sumy region in the north of Ukraine
According to Ukrainian border guards, Russia is "most actively" using its saboteurs in this region
Sumy, Ukraine (Svidomi) — Russian saboteurs tried to break through the Ukrainian border in the Sumy region in the north of the country, according to the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhii Naiev.
On February 3, at 18:20, Ukrainian troops spotted ten armed men on the outskirts of the Hlukhiv community and started a small shootout.
"Within a few minutes, [Ukrainian] mortar launchers joined the battle, densely firing at the place of concentration of the enemy forces," Naiev writes.
The battle lasted for an hour and a half. The Russians failed to break through the border and, according to the Joint Forces Commander, suffered losses.
It will be recalled that Ukrainian authorities have restricted traffic in the Sumy region in a 5-km zone near the border. In January, Russians shot dead at least three Ukrainian civilians in this area.
