Canadian PM defends the decision to return the turbine for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline to Germany
Canada agreed to the transfer despite the fact that the turbine is targeted by Canadian sanctions. Its return to Germany is supposed to support Europe's ability to have access to a reliable and affordable source of energy as it continues to wean itself off Russian oil and gas.
Justin Trudeau emphasised that Canada's sanctions against the Russian Federation are directed against Putin, not Canada's allies, who need to receive Russian oil and gas.
At the same time, the prime minister admitted that this decision was difficult.
