Ivan Havryliuk: Ukraine boosts kamikaze drone production to make up for artillery shells shortage
Ukraine is setting up the production of unmanned aerial vehicles to compensate for the shortage of artillery shells.
Deputy Defence Minister, General Ivan Havryliuk, said this in an interview with BBC Ukrainian Service.
In his words, Western countries have faced difficulties in meeting their own targets for supplying Ukraine with 155mm ammunition. Ammunition for Ukraine's existing Soviet artillery systems is also gradually running out.
Ukraine has focused on increasing the production of kamikaze drones to compensate. Ukraine also plans to launch production of missiles for the S-300 and Buk air defence systems together with its American partners in 2024.
We understand that it is impossible to compare the resources of Russia and Ukraine. Because Russia has a powerful defence industry that provides an advantage, including in human resources and equipment. Therefore, to gain an advantage on the battlefield, we need a technological advantage,
emphasises Ivan Havryliuk.
The Deputy Defence Minister is confident that Western partners will continue to provide military assistance. The EU countries provide arms and ammunition packages on a bilateral basis.
It will be recalled that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US Senators to discuss financial and military assistance to Ukraine. While no funding has been approved, negotiations between President Biden's administration and Congress are ongoing.
