Employees of the Khortytsia National Reserve discovered more than 2000 archaeological finds after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP

More than two thousand archaeological finds have been discovered near Khortytsia Island in Zaporizhzhia region following the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.

Representatives of the Khortytsia National Reserve said this during the opening of an exhibition of the artefacts.

"These are objects of various sizes dating from the seventh millennium BC to the Cossack era," the reserve's team said.

One of the finds is a bronze dagger from the Late Bronze Age, the second millennium BC.

In total, the bronze finds of that time in the reserve include three daggers, two sickles and jewellery.

"A similar dagger was found in 2004 on the island of Khortytsia, where we have now built a new bridge. Bronze finds are very, very rare," said Tatiana Shelemetieva, a senior researcher at the Khortytsia Reserve.

"Today, we have three daggers, two sickles and jewellery in the reserve's collection."

It will be recalled that in June 2023, employees of the Khortytsia National Reserve discovered a boat that was at least several hundred years old.
