Malolietka took the picture on March 9, 2022. Iryna Kalinina, pictured in the photo, died of injuries half an hour after giving birth to her deceased child.

"For me, this is a moment I want to forget all the time, but I can't. This story will stay with me forever," Malolietka says.

Yevhen Malolietka stayed in Mariupol for over two weeks after the full-scale invasion started, together with video journalist Mstyslav Chernov and producer Vasylisa Stepanenko. Despite the danger the team believed it was essential to stay in the city "to collect people's voices and emotions and show them to the world".

The competition attracted over 60,000 entries from 3,752 participants from 127 countries.
