Yandex co-founder Arkady Volozh appeals to the EU for sanctions relief — Financial Times

Arkady Volozh's lawyers have appealed to the EU to ease sanctions against the Yandex co-founder.

The Financial Times reported this.

According to journalists, the request will be considered within the next month.

The EU sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine are renewed every six months. According to people close to him, the businessman hopes the EU will not extend the sanctions this time. The restrictions are valid until September 15.

Arkady Volozh became subject to EU sanctions in June 2022. As a result, he resigned from the board of directors and the position of CEO of Yandex Group.

Two weeks ago, the businessman spoke for the first time about Russia's war against Ukraine and called the full-scale invasion "barbaric."

On August 7, Russian media reported that Volozh had removed all references to Russia from his website. He called himself "an Israeli entrepreneur born in Qazaqstan."

It will be recalled that in July 2023, the United Kingdom lifted sanctions against Russian billionaire Oleg Tinkov, probably because of his public condemnation of Russia's actions. Tinkov was the only Russian businessman to have his sanctions lifted.
