US Treasury imposes sanctions on Russian Alfa-Bank founders

The United States has imposed new sanctions on Russian businessmen who are members of Alfa-Bank's supervisory board.

The US Treasury Department's press service reported this.

The restrictions apply to Petr Aven, Mikhail Fridman, German Khan, and Alexei Kuzmichev.

These businessmen are already under sanctions in Australia, Canada, the European Union, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

"Wealthy Russian elites should disabuse themselves of the notion that they can operate business as usual while the Kremlin wages war against the Ukrainian people," said Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo.

Starting August 11, all the businessmen's property, as well as their accounts in the United States and held by the US citizens, have been frozen.

"In addition, any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 percent or more by one or more blocked persons are also blocked," the statement also reads.

It will be recalled that Mikhail Fridman still owns businesses in Ukraine, including stakes in Kyivstar, Morshynska, and Myrhorodska enterprises, as well as Alfa Insurance.
