US Attorney General authorizes transfer of confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine for the first time

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has authorized the transfer of confiscated assets of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev for use in Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters.

The United States accuses Malofeev of violating sanctions and financing Russians who promoted separatism in Crimea.

"Although this is the first transfer of confiscated Russian funds by the United States to rebuild Ukraine, it will not be the last," the prosecutor said.

On April 20, 2022, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 40 legal entities and individuals who were used to circumvent previous sanctions. Among them was oligarch Malofeev.
