In France, a man with a knife attacked a school, killing a teacher and injuring another teacher and a security guard. The attack took place at Gambetta High School in Arras (Pas-de-Calais). All educational institutions in the city were closed after the attack. According to media reports, the attack was carried out by a 20-year-old man of Chechen origin. Police also detained his brother.
In Beijing, an unknown person attacked an employee of the Israeli Embassy. The embassy employee is currently in hospital with a stab wound. According to The Jerusalem Post, the unknown attacker attacked him outside the diplomatic mission, but in the area where it is located.
The attacks occurred after Hamas declared October 13 "Global Day of Jihad" and called for harm to Jews and Israelis.
In the US, many significant political and religious buildings came under increased security, and schools in some cities were closed, The Washington Post reports.
