UN Secretary-General António Guterres has dissolved the fact-finding mission in connection with the Russian shelling of Olenivka, which killed Ukrainian POWs

This was reported by the UN spokesman, according to Reuters.

According to him, the UN mission cannot be deployed on the spot, which is why it is being dissolved.

It will be recalled that in July 2022, the Russians shelled the correctional facility in Olenivka, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian POWs were also held. As a result of the shelling, at least 40 soldiers were killed, and another 130 were wounded.

At the beginning of September 2022, the UN mission assured that it would arrive in Olenivka in the next few days, but it could not due to the lack of security guarantees from the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly called on international organizations, in particular the Red Cross, to send a humanitarian mission to Olenivka.

Currently, Russia is still holding Ukrainian prisoners of war in a penal colony in Olenivka in the Donetsk region.
