UN High Commissioner for Human Rights: HIMARS missile did not hit the colony in the temporarily occupied Olenivka

On July 25, a year after the killing of the prisoners, the High Commissioner denied Russian propaganda claims that a HIMARS missile had allegedly hit the colony.

High Commissioner Volker Türk's statement was published on the website of his office.

As a reminder, on the night of July 29 2022, an explosion occurred in a colony in the temporarily occupied territory. As a result, more than 50 prisoners died, and 130 were injured.

Throughout the year, the Office of the High Commissioner conducted interviews with surviving prisoners of war and their relatives.

Although the Office was unable to enter Olenivka, they concluded that the explosion was not caused by a HIMARS rocket. They did not receive any further information.

"The prisoners of war who were injured or died at Olenivka, and their family members, deserve the truth to be known, and for those responsible for breaches of international law to be held accountable," said Volker Türk.
