Ukrainian troops break through the first line of Russian defence in the Zaporizhzhia direction — General Tarnavskyi

General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, Commander of the Tavriia Defence Task Forces, said that Ukrainian troops had broken through the first line of Russian defence in the Zaporizhzhia direction.

He stated this in a comment to The Guardian.

They devoted 60% of their time and resources to its construction. And only 20% of their time and resources were spent on the second and third lines. 

This is because the Russians did not expect the Ukrainians to break through the first line.

According to him, Ukrainian troops are now advancing on both sides of the breakthrough and strengthening control over the territories they managed to liberate during the recent battles.

"In the centre of the offensive, we are now completing the destruction of enemy units that provide cover for the retreat of Russian troops behind their second defensive line," he said.
